I'm not going to mention the name of the first reviewer in that piece, but I'm also not letting the predictable 'IDM fans are the worst people in the world' schtick pass by without saying something.

'Writers' (*hearty laugh*) of and contributors to FACT magazine: I get it. You don't like people that frequent WATMM. Why? I don't know. You seem to like us when we can facilitate you with the latest information on the main artists mostly discussed here, but time and again we see that you don't like us well enough to acknowledge WATMM as a credible source. Anywhere but, in fact! You'd rather quote a tramp asking for change outside the tube station as the source for the latest Burial EP than demean yourselves with a linkback to WATMM. I mean, God forbid you dare reverse your yawn-inducing policy of tarring anyone who doesn't fit into your latest fad-driven utopia as a glue-sniffing reprobate. But then it's too late to do that - you've stuck your flag out on the lawn at full-mast, and that's where it's staying. I have a suggestion as to where you can stick that metaphorical flag, but I'm sure even you top-flight journalistic geniuses can dream up where I'm headed with that.

Sure, I like to listen to what is collectively referred to as IDM. Have done for a fair few years, actually. To be honest, I'll openly admit it is a daft term, which is mostly bandied about as a playful jibe these days among old buggers and fresh-faced newcomers alike. I listen to a lot of other music too. I won't tire you with the ins and outs of my listening habits, because let's face it, genres exist to pigeonhole music into neat boxes so that wannabe music journalists with a dire sense of self-inflated credibility think they can dictate to the rest of us what we should and shouldn't be listening to... and seemingly, writing off an imaginary group of people who appreciate a genre. In this case the, so say, 'IDM fan'.

Your approach to music coverage is spiteful and unwelcome, and I wish such uninformed, rude outlets as yours didn't exist to spout hateful bollocks with a sideways grin to a feedback loop of readers who wear thick-rimmed specs, plaid shirts and a haircut that cost them a week's wages. I think they're called 'Hipsters', but maybe that's a cover-all term for a group of people who don't exist together as a whole? You tell me.

Woa that's the answer I wanted after I first read that. What an arrogant prick. He spends 2 paragraphs mocking the fanbases instead of just talking about the song. He clearly doesn't give 2 fucks about it. Where do they find these guys? Seriously.

lol, there's defending reviewing things and giving people perspective from the other side. But that guy was being a wanker, plain and simple. They do get inside news from us and then don't link back. To then be so ungrateful as to pen such a spiteful missive at this friendly place, well why not be annoyed about it. A lot of his words were straight from the knock watmm playbook of 2005-2009, neckbeards et al. So it does make you think that both, the reviewer should perhaps have updated his antagonistic plays by now, lazy writing you could base an whole review on his review that revolved around that heh, and that it was someone with an axe to grind, which maybe means ex-member (they have to lop it off when they get banned, because it's no longer necessary).

''to hear that (Drukqs)scrappy collection of half-finished tracks''

...good lord, the sophistication and sensitive composition in a track like Mt Saint Michel alone is worth the purchase price and the rest of the album is pure magic.

Ikr

I get sick in the stomach every time I see people referring to druqks as a bad album, specially when they mention it is a set of unfinished tracks. Because that means they haven't even heard it and they're just regurgitating some bullshit they read elsewhere.

I agree. I can tolerate people not enjoying it (because it's not exactly a walk in the park), but to say it's bad just pisses me off.

I think people sometimes get offended when an artist they love releases something that they can't understand. I guess, for them, it'd be like their wife cheating on them with the Eiffel Tower.

The following is a long-winded analogy.

Confusion, heartbreak, anger. You can never look at the Eiffel Tower in the same way again. You now hate all of Paris, maybe all of France. You start to hate buildings in general, and architects. Then all life gradually begins to lose meaning is replaced, all-encompassing, with visages, fold-faced, of the Eiffel Tower. You become the Eiffel Tower before you even realise it. You start to loathe yourself. Then you look around and realise that life isn't so bad being the Eiffel Tower. You actually quite like the intricate workings of all the little people moving up and down your elevators, taking pictures, posing. You enjoy looking over Paris at night-time, a friendly voyeur of romance and drinking with friends on the long lawns. Before you know it, the Eiffel Tower is actually your safe haven away from regular, boring life, and when you open your eyes and you're back in reality as yourself, the long Eiffel Tower segue played out in your mind, you realise that that the Eiffel Tower you once treated with such scorn and malice has now presented itself to you in an entirely different light, a light which is equal parts prepared piano and drill and bass, a light which you now embrace. You feel guilty about what you said about the Eiffel Tower back in 2001. You forgive your girlfriend for cheating on you. You move on.

DrukQs, Eiffel Tower, Antonio Flimtano. Forever?

Can't be bothered reading the whole thread - but I think the lyrics might be;

"Yoouuouu, what did I do wrong, to you?" or "Youuuou, what did I do wrong, with you."

Perhaps the "wrong's" been deliberately mangled to make it less obvious.

I was at Manchester Warehouse when he played this, can't bloody remember it though, glad there was a video all this time.

the vocals are obviously "feeed me your meeeeaaaaat stickkkkkk"

John Twells = Xela

Yeah I read that FACTmag piece, about IDM fans being this or that. I couldn't give a monkey's about this wankers opinion. Fuck him.

modern music reviews will go down in history not only as the worst writing in history but as shockingly bad, so bad that it wouldn't seem possible that such horrible writing and ideas could exist, and it astounds one to witness it. it is truly an oddity of nature.

there are exceptions, but to generalize.

I live very close to Walsall. If he comes home I'll collar him for you.

Or maybe you're that guy, cause you then, make up two points to knock watmmrz, hah. As to what you said, some of the middle generation like the term idm because it's what they grew up with, some of the oldies like me never liked it so battle on with electronica or braindance, but don't grumble anymore when someone uses it. Apparently though we have to use edm now, even rephlex says so via certain releases. heh ;-p And i thought that richard was 'touched' by us chaps over the caustic window thing. Be strange to be touching a bunch of tossers, well unless you were part of some bukakke event or something.
