i'm just fucking awestruck. i heard this track wayyyy back in 2007 when someone posted the clip right here... the thread probably isn't here anymore. i'm not usually one for live sets, and i never listened to much of the other material (in fact, i don't think i heard any of the other tracks until people started compiling those huge list threads of holy grail unreleased aphex). all these years i've been listening to this fuzzy, seven year old mp3 clip, lamenting on the huge stacks of unheard material in the bank vaults, trying to work my ears around the skips and the crowd noise, but always being blown away by this track, like a lost moment in time when the heavens poured out onto earth for five minutes just to give us a taste of minipops 67.

for years and years, i truly and honestly did not believe there'd be another aphex twin album. thankfully there was already so much, plus a couple of other people in the world who released music on records, but i kept coming back to my clip of the manchester track. it is *THE* quintessential, doctrine fucking example of an epiphany expressed in music. a spine-blasting, eyeball-searing climax that coarses through the ether of even the shittiest pair of headset speakers. no matter where i looked there was no piece of music like it. i was treating this lo-fi, bootlegged recording like people treat altibzz on quaristice, like the single greatest track on an album that is constantly in rotation.

now i have this track. i will hear this track forever. i am listening to the soundtrack to my very soul as i fucking discover that ELEVEN MORE TRACKS LIKE THIS ARE GOING TO BE ON THIS ALBUM. i cannot put in my own words how this feels, but i guess if you're reading this thread you probably have the same track on repeat as me.

Someone has to be buddha/jesus and the holy roast who makes the smile, shakes the first hand, turns the other cheek more. People are just a bit excited now, but i haven't noticed any cruelty (beyond that quick jab at osci), i think that maybe you're having a friday night misapprehension of reality in the negative direction.

maybe, no offence, offers to shake hands, whilst smiling and taking the piss out of himself for being a dweeb that took the time to write this for the sole purpose of love of his fellow wattmrz not matter whom they are.

Why would I block you? You haven't attacked me in any personal way. Sure, our opinions on music may differ but that's just natural and exactly as it should be.

It's weird how you can hear the fake tracks that are 'leaked' but you know sure as shit that they're fake. But upon hearing this...yeah, no doubt in my mind. He's back alright. And this time not singing about beetles or milkmen, whatever.

Not a huge fan of Plaid, myself, but thankfully I don't hear much of that in minipops. Did anyone else get a sort of GAK vibe when they listened to it?

Derailing the thread a bit but does anyone remember that Plaid fan from around the Scintilli period?

Guy was an absolute nightmare. I noticed he got banned eventually.

i think it's a great track. someone compared it to 4 on rdj album, i think yeah 4 sticks out as one of his best openers, if not the best, so it makes sense to compare it to that but also i think it's hard to actually compare the two. especially without hearing the rest of the album. plus, there's a world of difference between the two styles, but i do think this track may go down as another great opener to another great album.

fortunately i only listened to the youtube live vids a handful of times because too much of the detail was missing from those recordings, and the tracks seemed a bit unimpressive due to that, to me. like i could tell that the track heavily depended on some slick percussive things going on, like tuss stuff, and a lot of that was lost in those recordings. hearing it in full quality now, it's as good as i expected it to be. not his most mind blowing track i've heard, imo, but i wouldn't expect it to be. it's a solid track and i totally expect more than a few mind blowing moments on the album.

for me it sounds a bit like cure a weakling child (the come to daddy version) and tuss had a love baby

i love it

dunno/don't care what debate may have be created by the poll initially. I love the track. Takes the best parts of Windowlicker, removes the least and replaces the best with even better. I dig, end of.

Even if it was possible to block a moderator (which apparently it isn't ) it would serve no purpose because their job on here is to keep some sort of sanity. I've never had any problems with moderators - they do a good job.

Christ only knows what things would be like without any admin.

I'd never heard Minipops 67 until yesterday. It's a great track - takes all the best of Aphex and rolls it into one sonic piece of beauty.

I hope the rest of the album is equally good but... not having heard anything else from it, I'm tempering my expectations.

Hopefully, the daft old Cornish guy will deliver.

I like it a lot but i still prefer how the live version sounded @ manchester (minus the crowd noise, even tho it kinda adds to it)

i swear they're slightly different. the minipops version has a few parts where hes added shit in to the song that i think makes it sound a bit cluttered. and the vocals dont sound right to me. that part @ the very end i dnt like much either, but it could sound better in the album context

Still a gr8 track that has its moments tho. I hope the rest of syro is better 8-)

i like that you compared it to "4". i think this album is going to be comparable to RDJ Album = lots of great different yet technical tracks, classic album

Hell yes, this track is great! Has the lovely sense of melody and playful rhythm that make it fun and complex at the same time. Definitely feeling it, my hype for the new album has just grown exponentially.
