Surprised at how much it sounds like Plaid, at least melodically. If this is the worst song on the album, our brains are going to be melted.

I thought exactly the same tbh man.

i love the track. but i think he might have toned down the choir vocals a bit. is it just me?

I thought the exact same thing, it threw me a bit at first. Will be cool tho, to me the live recording is just an earlier version of the track now

Mang I have to say, the soundstaging is very special.

Yeah, everyone talk about his mixing skills, but what about the engineering of his sounds? It sounds so alive and 3dimensional. He sure knows how to record his hardware gear so that it doesn't sound all dead and digital.

Despite knowing the live versions, on my first few listens of this I'd start the track and feel like it was already finished moments later. I think I've grokked it now, the track feels longer or less rushed and I can appreciate all the subtle changes, as if I needed to adjust to the pace of it. All of the individual parts feel fleshed out, it just happens rather quickly.

Great stuff and I agree with all of you who wrote that it's danceable and funky in one of the thousand Syro threads we have going. The idea of an Aphex Twin album full of house/techno/breaks is starting to appeal to me more than the mindfuck some of you probably want(ed).

Can't wait to hear what Metz and Singapore will sound like in full glory, let alone the rest of it.

I thought it reminded me of a radio head song. I was waiting for Tom York to come out and start singing.

Out of curiosity, does the live version have the pause and the second half (I really never have listened to the full live version)? I wouldn't be surprised if he added this on for the "source field mix" - please correct me if I am right or wrong.

Sounds more or less the same to me Joyrex, the live one contains more edits as you'd expect and is maybe a little less polished, but no major differences.

Those who have listened more closely, feel free to interject!

after listening to it 20 times I really like it but I feel it is missing something. The drop at the end where everything fuses and rushes together doesn't completely do it for me, I always feel like "Is it over aldready? cmon our business isn't finished"

Less than a week! I can't listen to this track enough! I wake up in the middle of the night with it in my head. I love Aphex! I'm so excited. I've checked this god-4-saken website everyday for fucking YEARS with NO news and we're so close! Holy Shit! Oh my god! Anybody else feel like this everyday? Can't wait to hear that METZ track in HD glory! My speakers and headphones have no idea what they are about to be put through! Fanboy I am! BRING IT ALREADY!

Probably fits in the context of an album. Not meant to be singled out.

I bet it flows nicely into the second track of the album... it has to be listened to in context

ditto :D

First time I heard it was at Italia Love Festival in 2009. So for me it's the "Livorno Track"... but it was already the "Manchester track" tho... as you can see from this WATMM post

I have managed to forget how Metz sounded from the youtubes, I'm so excited to hear these two on follow up! I'm sure Metz will def. trigger some memories of "I have heard this before", but my memories would be so distorted from the real thing... man this is gonna be awesome! Edited by MIXL2

I think you've summed it up nicely, it seems like the exact same track with all the same sections, only difference is he does a lot of live stutter edits or whatever they're called on the 'bootleg' version.

I think it's the amount of additional detail in the album version that was overwhelming at first, the track's got more meat on its bones than I realized. I can't listen to the old YouTube clips with the same ears now, having heard the track properly I hear stuff I barely noticed or paid attention to before.

Edited by manmower

i'd like it more without the singing part at the end, just finishing with the main melody in a climax loop ... but it sounds lush as hell

I'm not going to mention the name of the first reviewer in that piece, but I'm also not letting the predictable 'IDM fans are the worst people in the world' schtick pass by without saying something.

'Writers' (*hearty laugh*) of and contributors to FACT magazine: I get it. You don't like people that frequent WATMM. Why? I don't know. You seem to like us when we can facilitate you with the latest information on the main artists mostly discussed here, but time and again we see that you don't like us well enough to acknowledge WATMM as a credible source. Anywhere but, in fact! You'd rather quote a tramp asking for change outside the tube station as the source for the latest Burial EP than demean yourselves with a linkback to WATMM. I mean, God forbid you dare reverse your yawn-inducing policy of tarring anyone who doesn't fit into your latest fad-driven utopia as a glue-sniffing reprobate. But then it's too late to do that - you've stuck your flag out on the lawn at full-mast, and that's where it's staying. I have a suggestion as to where you can stick that metaphorical flag, but I'm sure even you top-flight journalistic geniuses can dream up where I'm headed with that.

Sure, I like to listen to what is collectively referred to as IDM. Have done for a fair few years, actually. To be honest, I'll openly admit it is a daft term, which is mostly bandied about as a playful jibe these days among old buggers and fresh-faced newcomers alike. I listen to a lot of other music too. I won't tire you with the ins and outs of my listening habits, because let's face it, genres exist to pigeonhole music into neat boxes so that wannabe music journalists with a dire sense of self-inflated credibility think they can dictate to the rest of us what we should and shouldn't be listening to... and seemingly, writing off an imaginary group of people who appreciate a genre. In this case the, so say, 'IDM fan'.

Your approach to music coverage is spiteful and unwelcome, and I wish such uninformed, rude outlets as yours didn't exist to spout hateful bollocks with a sideways grin to a feedback loop of readers who wear thick-rimmed specs, plaid shirts and a haircut that cost them a week's wages. I think they're called 'Hipsters', but maybe that's a cover-all term for a group of people who don't exist together as a whole? You tell me.

I wonder why people still read reviews to this day... Obviously there are some smart asses at FACT who like to feel important. It's the case with most webzines. Just don't read their stuff and move on. They don't deserve your time. Jason, you're feeding them what they want. I've been there. As a reviewer, all you want is free music. What you write about it depends on your mood of the day. I never understood why people read it and take it so seriously.

I used to be a reviewer too, and MassfreeKid is right. I fell out of love with it and now prefer to just listen to stuff with an open mind. Knowing I had to review an album came with its own set of pressures.

I still read reviews but it's mostly to get opinions on records I've heard, sometimes they can give me a perspective I've missed. I find the Drukqs reviews from 2001 so interesting now for eg.
