Half Life is 13 years old and feels and plays better than 90% of nowadays' shooters. Even without the cool textures pack. It's awesome how well this game has aged. Incredible.

My queue of unfinished games is getting excessive.

I'm going to tackle LBP2 next. Then Dead Space 2.

i'm playing catherine and el shaddai right now... well, i just finished el shaddai.

have any of you played catherine, and have you beaten it? i can't seem to get past the last boss (well, i assume he's the last boss)...

i think 2gb ram is your weakest link, i had no problem running it with e6400, 4gb ram and hd4850 (it's not much better than 8800).

but yeah, civ 5 is a bit of a fail, the only thing they got right was the combat.

Is el shaddai any good? And is it a hack'n'slash game?

I tried the demo on XBL. Seems cool, but the gameplay seemed to be a little boring.

el shaddai looks great but i'm not sure how it would be for a whole game. how's the gameplay? would be an amazing stoner game.

finished darksider today - wow. one of the finest games i've ever played. running through it again for a 100% playthrough (with a guide - had no idea how much i'd missed, thought i'd been very thorough.

also playing saints row 2 now - game brings the lols and is very fun. saints row 3 looks absolutely amazing.

Also, did you find the british zombies?

i personally loved el shaddai. the gameplay is simple, you just run from place to place, fighting every now and then. there's some platforming, and it's sometimes very frustrating, but it's not bad. i enjoyed the combat and didn't have a problem with the simple one-button scheme, but i can see how others would be bothered by it. my biggest problem with it was the difficulty of the last few bosses, the anticlimactic ending (i hope that's not giving anything away), and the fact that the game is on the short side, but those don't ruin the game. if you've played and enjoyed okami (or another game like castlevania: lament of innocence), then you'll like el shaddai. i can honestly say that it's one of the best games i've played this year, but i can't recommend it for everyone. it's destined to be a niche game that will be remembered and loved by a select few but forgotten by everyone else.

i have darksiders but haven't played it at all past the first two stages. i let my brother borrow it last year and he never gave it back... i'd like to get into it because i've heard a lot of good things about it.

You should look into Limbo or Outland... your kind of games, methinks Flim.

i played the demo for outland and really liked it, but didn't buy it. not sure why. i definitely will try to before the year is up. i have seen limbo around, but i have never really thought to try it out. think i'll go and check out the demo right now...

They're both great - Limbo is short but a great experience, and Outland can be difficult in some parts. The whole light/dark system it has like Ikaruga is very challenging to master effectively.

yeah, i couldn't get very far in ikaruga, so if outland is in anyway similar to that, i will probably suck at it, too... that being said, i do want to play it.

to address your post in particular, i'd say that the demo doesn't do the game justice. there's so much more to it than what is given to you in the demo. i'm not sure why they chose that chapter to represent their game, but it's not a good insight into what el shaddai has to offer. yes, it is a hack 'n' slash for the most part, but there are several different gameplay styles mixed in as well. if nothing else, it is a work of art and i recommend it to anyone who wants to support true artistic vision, but it's also a fun game.

I found one - complete surprise and such a fantastic easter egg. I'll be fighting more this playthrough for sure.

You'll be seeing 2 at least if you're going for the 100%. I had to 100% this game twice because I accidentaly fell off one of the elevators on the final stage and there was no way of getting on it again, so I had to restart.
